General Information
The HOPE Group, (Helping Our People Everyday), is a support group under DN Community Mental Health Services.
The Group was created to be a safe place where members could come and be free of discrimination, judgment and criticism.
The Group offers a ray of hope to all of its members. It is a place that gives its members purpose, support, advice, unity, friendship and tranquility. When you go to a HOPE GROUP meeting its like being around a second family. The group helps to support and lift up one another.
According to group member, Linda: "the Hope Group has a place in my heart. It also is enlightening and has a spiritual significance for me as well as the other group members. It's as if bridges have been built up once again to cross. I can actually see, feel and appreciate the love that flows out of the group member's hearts and the expression on their faces."
The members of the HOPE Group have a yes I can attitude. Despite everything one goes through, one can make it through it regardless you just have to have hope.
What to expect at a HOPE Group Meeting?
What exactly do you expect at a HOPE Group meeting you might ask? The HOPE Group does arts and crafts projects and activities. The technique of using art as a way of expression has therapeutic value. Members are offered a variety of medium to express themselves creatively. Members are encouraged to share their artwork and experience. The group encourages networking amongst its members including awareness of community resources. It is a time to get advice and make new friends. It is a time to get advice and give advice to others.
The HOPE GROUP experience
All of the members of the HOPE Group have purpose. They all have their own reasons for joining the group and they are a unique group. The HOPE Group is about support. Everyone goes through thing that they need support and just have someone to listen to. The HOPE Group is a group of unity. We are a community of people that have come together for one common goal, Helping Our People Everyday! The Hope Group is a place to build and develop friendships. The HOPE Group is a place of tranquility. It is a place to feel comfortable and relax.
The Role of the HOPE Group
The role of the HOPE Group is to offer support to the community, as well as to each other, as in friendship and love. Our focus is to stay focused and maintain our sense of stability. Some of the ways we support the community is by reaching out to those in need. By reaching out to those in need, by either a phone call, a letter, a card or a friendly visit.
The HOPE Group sponsors events in the community such as poetry slams, health fairs, clothing drives, Friday Movie Group and Women's Exercise Group.
